Our creativity at Alaska Panhandle Pottery is deeply sparked by the natural wonders surrounding us in Juneau. The rugged mountains, the vast, mysterious ocean, the diverse wildlife, and the ever-changing weather all contribute to the unique character of our pottery. Each element of Alaska's wild beauty finds its way into our designs, making every piece a reflection of this incredible place.
A glaze from local earth
One of our most unique inspirations came from a hands-on experience right here in Alaska. We once dug some local blue clay, hoping to use it as a clay body. While it wasn't suitable for that purpose, it proved invaluable in another way, generating a beautiful, locally created glaze. This story exemplifies our commitment to incorporating the essence of our environment into our craft.
Connecting with our community
Juneau is more than just a location; it's a close-knit community we cherish. Having lived here for 45+ years, it’s rare to go anywhere without seeing a familiar face we know. Our annual pottery show is a highlight, offering a wonderful opportunity to renew friendships and connect with folks we haven't seen in a while. We love being an integral part of this vibrant local fabric.
